9 Quick & Easy ways to Refresh Your Home For The Holidays

Add Some Greenery

Greenery always makes a room feel fresh and inviting and the holidays offer the perfect opportunity to infuse fresh foliage to your space. Sprucing up an empty corner with a taller house plant will add height and texture as well as colour to an otherwise drab space. If your corner is short on natural light, consider getting a faux plant! You could also include some evergreen clippings to make a great centre piece with the addition of some stems of berries or seasonal faux flowers.

Window Treatments

A great way to quickly revamp a room is with new window treatments. Create an illusion to make your room look bigger by mounting curtains closer to the ceiling and extending the rods up to 10” past the window frame. Consider swapping out your mini blinds for roman or bamboo blinds for an instant update. Change up neutrals for a pop of colour or pattern. Changing the fabric to match the season is another perfect way to refresh your home decor. Summer months are nice to have light and airy fabrics like thin cotton and linen, but in cooler months opt for heavier fabric like velvet and thicker cottons for added warmth and coziness.

Change Accent Pieces

Such a quick easy way to make your room feel like a different space is to switch out accessories like pillows and throw blankets. Incorporating the colour scheme of your holiday décor into your rooms accessories can make the space feel pulled together and polished without much effort.

Changing Out Hardware

A small change with a big impact, changing out hardware on kitchen cabinetry or home furnishings like tv consoles and storage cabinets can really level up your interior decor game and it can be easier than you think, with a little planning before hand. Wood pulls can give a cozy farmhouse or country cottage vibe and sleek metal pulls like brass or chrome can update a modern or contemporary space instantly.

Organize Everyday Items

Areas like bathrooms and laundry rooms can often be overlook when giving a refresh to your home but once done, the payoff feels big. Simple additions like a rolling cart to keep toiletries and cleaning supplies collected can help keep the space looking tidy, fresh and clean. Storage baskets and pretty canisters can keep all sorts of items tucked away and in check as well.

Rugs

Area rugs can get faded and dingy after years of wear and tear. A fresh new area rug can really give a room a new look and lease on life. Don’t overlook your entry rugs as they are often the ones to show the most use. A great option to consider is layering rugs! An oversized neutral rug layered with a smaller, pattered rug can give your decor so much added depth and texture.

Add An Accent Wall

A quick way to  give a new look to your walls without having to repaint the whole space is with an accent wall. Some great options are peel and stick wall paper with similar colours to your existing wall colour is a guaranteed way for instant transformation. Large wall decals can add some fun to an otherwise drab room. Create a bold stripe or chevron pattern with paint, a little painters tape, pencil and level. Brick veneer is becoming more available and it’s a perfect way to add character and interest while being relatively easy to install. Check with your local home improvement store for details and availability.

Fresh Towels and Linens

Nothing feels better than sinking into a fresh new set of bed sheets or drying off in some extra fluffy towels after a shower. If you have guests staying with you over the holiday season, they will be sure to appreciate these items as well!

Scents

If you home doesn’t smell fresh, it wont feel fresh. Be sure to do a little seasonal “spring” cleaning and go through areas like garbage and recycling receptacles, under sinks and launder fabrics you can like pet beds, blankets, curtains or slipcovers. If you cant wash an item, some linen spray can do the trick. You can even make all natural linen and room sprays with essential oil, water, rubbing alcohol/vodka and a spray bottle. Simply fill a spray bottle with 1 part alcohol or vodka and 1 part water and add your choice of essential oils. Lemon and lavender blend is our favourite! Be sure to give it a good shake before spraying and always check to see if your oils are non-toxic to your pets. Essential oil diffusers and scented candles are always great items to add to your arsenal for a fresh smelling space!
